EYE-TEACH

EYE-TEACH is an EU-funded initiative aimed at transforming educational practices across Europe. By integrating AI and eye-tracking technologies into teachers’ day-to-day pedagogical practices, we empower educators and give them novel tools for enhancing their students’ reading comprehension. This technology offers insights into reading behaviors and comprehension levels, enabling personalised teaching strategies.

Discover how we’re making education more responsive and effective through innovation and collaboration.

Problem and Goals

Today’s educational landscape is rapidly changing, presenting new challenges that demand innovative responses. EYE-TEACH is at the forefront, using AI and eye-tracking technologies to enhance how teachers engage with and support their students. Our goals are to improve the accessibility and effectiveness of teaching, and importantly, to demystify the use of AI in education, helping teachers and students embrace these tools without apprehension.

About Us - Consortium

Building on the pioneering efforts of educational and technological advancements, the EYE-TEACH project is led by a consortium of distinguished partners from multiple countries across Europe, with the European Commission as its granting authority. Our consortium includes a dynamic team of academic institutions, tech innovators, and education specialists dedicated to reshaping the educational landscape.

Together, we are committed to enhancing reading comprehension through innovative AI and eye-tracking technologies, reaching educators and students throughout Europe.

Our efforts are supported by the involvement of key stakeholders in education technology, ensuring that the EYE-TEACH project not only meets but exceeds its goals of transforming educational practices and increasing accessibility to personalised learning solutions.

Workplan

Work Package 1 - Skill Support for Educators

WP 1 Lead: UANTWERP

The objective of WP1 is to empower teachers across different educational levels to collaborate harmoniously with AI-assisted-ET-analytics tools to assess and support their students’ reading comprehension. EYE-TEACH researchers will explore teachers’ needs of, acceptance, and readiness for use of different types of AI-assisted-ET-analytics tools, linked to the three selected levels of automation. This process will involve the direct input of teachers throughout.

Work Package 2 - Eye Movement Metrics for Reading Comprehension

WP 2 Lead: UVEG

WP2 looks to incorporate the eye movement metrics of students’ reading comprehension and learning processes with an AI-assisted analytics tool. Here EYE-TEACH researchers will examine different learning task contexts identified by practitioners and teachers in WP1 to scrutinise and validate metrics that reflect reading comprehension processes.

Work Package 3 - AI Tools and Technological Solutions

WP 3 Lead: DFKI

WP3 will analyse the WP1 practitioner requirements and WP2 metrics, to design and develop a pilot system for transforming eye movement data to a comprehensible output, considering the WP4 ethical framework.

Work Package 4 - Ethical Framework

WP 4 Lead: CNR

Here the project will address the ethical and legal challenges associated with the use of eye tracking (ET) and artificial intelligence (AI) in educational settings. This WP aims to establish a robust ethical framework that ensures the responsible collection,

analysis, and use of eye movement data, particularly in contexts involving students’ reading, learning and comprehension.

Work Package 5 - Dissemination, Exploitation and Sustainability

WP 5 Lead: AL

Work Package 5 is dedicated to engaging with target stakeholders through a series of strategic dissemination and communication activities. Through the project, we will build and nurture an ecosystem of stakeholders centered around AI and eye-tracking in education.

Work Package 6 - Management and Coordination

WP 6 Lead: UTU

Work Package 6 is responsible for the management and coordination of the project. WP6 ensures the effective establishment and ongoing management of the project and consortium. Key activities include developing a comprehensive project data management plan and implementing robust risk management and ethics processes.
